Distribution of multiple scatterings in proton-nucleus collisions at high energy

چکیده
We consider proton-nucleus collisions at high energy in the Color Glass Condensate framework, and extract from the gluon production crosssection the probabilities of having a definite number of multiple scatterings in the nucleus. Various properties of the distribution of the number of multiple scatterings are studied, and we conclude that events in which the momentum of a hard jet is compensated by many much softer particles on the opposite side are very unlikely except for extreme values of the saturation momentum. In the same framework, we also investigate the possibility to estimate the impact parameter of a proton-nucleus collision, from the measure of the multiplicity of its final state. High energy pA collisions in the color glass condensate approach I. Gluon production and the Cronin effect
We study gluon production in high energy proton-nucleus collisions in the semi-classical framework of the Color Glass Condensate. We develop a general formalism to compute gluon fields in covariant gauge to lowest order in the classical field of the proton and to all orders in the classical field of the nucleus. The use of the covariant gauge makes the diagrammatic interpretation of the solutio...
متن کاملbb̄bb̄ production in proton-nucleus collisions at the LHC
A sizable rate of events, with several pairs of b-quarks produced contemporarily by multiple parton interactions, may be expected at very high energies as a consequence of the large parton luminosities. The production rates are further enhanced in hadron-nucleus reactions, which may represent a convenient tool to study the phenomenon. We compare the different contributions to bb̄bb̄ production, d...
متن کاملCronin effect and high–p⊥ suppression from the Color Glass Condensate
I give a pedagogical survey of the nuclear collective effects associated with gluon saturation and their impact on particle production in high–energy proton (or deuteron)–nucleus collisions at RHIC. At central rapidity, the theory predicts a Cronin peak due to independent multiple scattering off the valence quarks in the nucleus. At forward rapidities, the peak flattens out and disappears very ...
متن کاملNuclear Dependence Asymmetries in Direct Photon Production
We study the nuclear dependences of high-p T jet cross sections in one photon and one jet production in proton-nucleus collisions. We find that there exist asymmetries between the outgoing jets and photons. A convincing reason responsible for those asymmetries are demonstrated in perturbative QCD. Significant nuclear enhancements are also found in the inclusive jet cross sections. Anomalous nuc...
متن کاملConstituent quark model for nuclear stopping in high energy nuclear collisions
We study the nuclear stopping in high energy nuclear collisions using the constituent quark model. It is assumed that wounded nucleons with different number of interacted quarks hadronize in different ways. The probabilities of having such wounded nucleons are evaluated for proton-proton, protonnucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions. After examining our model in protonproton and proton-nucleus ...
